One big bowl, one full-length drainboard
This is the configuration that solves both problems at once: a bowl wide enough for a roasting tray, and a draining surface long enough for a full dish rack load. It is the most requested layout in UK and Irish kitchen refurbishment, where the standard 600 mm base unit has to hold sink, drainer and tap in one run.
Because the bowl and the board share the same sheet, there is no seam between them. That matters more than it sounds: a bolted-on drainboard creates a joint that collects water and eventually stains, while a formed one-piece unit has nothing to fail.
What to specify before ordering
- Overall length — 860–1200 mm. Measure the cabinet run and subtract the tap zone before choosing.
- Bowl width — 400–500 mm on this configuration; the board takes 300–400 mm of the remainder.
- Hand — left or right. Confirm against the actual kitchen layout, not the showroom.
- Board finish — plain or fluted, with or without a rolled front edge.
- Tap holes — one, two or none. A board-side tap hole is often requested for a separate filter tap.

Sizing it against a 600 mm cabinet
A 1000 mm sink does not fit a 600 mm base unit. What fits is a 860–900 mm unit spanning a 600 mm cabinet plus part of the adjacent one, or a purpose-made 1000 mm cabinet. Before quoting, ask for the cabinet drawing — not the room dimension. We have seen more wrong orders from room measurements than from any other cause.
Frequently asked questions
Will a 1000 mm sink fit a standard 600 mm cabinet?
No. It needs a 1000 mm cabinet, or it must span two cabinets with a continuous worktop. The cabinet drawing is the only reliable reference.
Can the drainboard be cut down on site?
No. The board is formed with a rolled edge; cutting it destroys the edge and exposes a raw line that will corrode. Order the correct length.
Is a fluted board worth the extra cost?
For contract and rental work, yes — it hides scratches and drains faster. For a single high-end kitchen, plain is fine and easier to keep clean.
Can I have a second tap hole on the board side?
Yes, drilled to your drawing. State the hole diameter — 35 mm is standard for a filter tap, 35 or 38 mm for a mixer.
